Outside Lands 2018 as we lived it
Taking place at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Outside Lands is one of the finest US music festivals running right now. With more than five stages, dozens of attractions, food and drinks, the festival is offering a gorgeous lineup in its 11th edition.
The festival was filled with many stellar acts, so here are our 7 favorite moments from Outside Lands 2018:
From the dancers covered in black cloth like ninjas to the storytelling concept, the musical performance and the stage attitude of Pharrell Williams, N.E.R.D. was one of highlights of the festival. Many were unsure what to expect, but the alternative hip-hop band surprised with Lapdance, Lemon and Pharrell’s hit, Drop It Like It’s Hot.
Alt-rocker Beck have played Outside Lands multiple times including the inaugural year. His groovy rendition of Wow with stunning visuals got the crowd dancing. Kicking off his set with Devil’s Haircut, Beck continued with songs from across his nearly 30-year career, playing anthems like Odelay and Where It’s At.
Chvrches frontwoman Lauren Mayberry brought her unique voice and the signature synth-pop sound. The trio delivered a memorable set consisting mostly of tracks off their latest album “Love is Dead”
ODESZA has a formula that just works: intense lightning, large percussion, and choreography. EDM duo drew a huge crowd to the Polo Field, where fans loved every minute of their act. Despite the static nature of theg EDM genre, they delivered a visually intense show. A horn section, a drumline and the visuals were incredible.
R&B icon The Weeknd brought steady club beats, lighting and fog machines. His vocals were accompanied by a rocking bass and a dizzying array of lights. The crowd exploded during his powerful performances of I Can’t Feel My Face, Party Monster and Often.
Florence + the Machine showed everyone their extreme energy, as Outside Lands welcomed the first female headliner in the festival’s history. Welch encouraged fans to put their phones away and hold hands with one other. Florence was running through the crowd, singing some of our favorites: Dogs Days are Over, You’ve Got the Love and Hunger.
Eclectic rockers The Growlers came to perform their brand of surf and do what they know best. The band is coming off the success of their own festival in LA, and here in San Francisco The Growlers rocked the crowd with songs such as One Million Lovers and Orgasm of Death.
