Fat White Family rocking "Serfs Up!" in Spain
From mixing the aesthetics of the extreme right with a leftist perspective, Fat White Family share their personal stories being a testimony of immigrants and working class. Standing in front of an authentic and decadent group, they are direct, unexpected and furious.
After the release of their second album "Songs for Our Mothers" in 2016, the band took a break of almost three years. Now Fat White Family have returned with their most recent album “Serfs Up!” (Domino Records, 2019). Certainly, it’s the album that celebrates the tenacity of a group traumatized by its own fame. The album seems to bring together the good of talents: collaborations with artists such as Baxter Dury, who lends his voice at Tastes Good with the Money or Roisin Murphy, directing the video for the same track. What’s increasingly evident is that Fat White Family are on their way to becoming a reference for themselves.
That night at Apollo we witnessed their cohesion as a choral band. Barcelona’s show started with Auto Neutron, bringing eclecticism to its maximum expression. Followed by Tinfoil Deathstar and Fringe Runner, Lias stripped off his sunglasses and jacket, opening a debacle with no return. The liveshow strolled through some of the themes from “Serfs Up!” such as Feet, Bobby's Boyfriend and I Believe In Something Better, followed by the great singles like I Am Mark E. Smith, Cream Of The Young and Whitest Boy on the Beach - the song on the final credits of the 2017 T2 Trainspotting movie.
